Krumlov is not a shopping mecca, unless you specialize in souvenirs. There are dozens of small shops selling everything from cheap imported underwear to diamond jewelry.
A true gem of the area though is Modavite or Vltavin (which is named after the river flowing through Krumlov), a rare material that was forged by a comets impact with the earth hundreds of thousands of years ago. The fused result is a semi-pliable green mineral compound that is warm to the touch and easy to carve. Exquisit nymph figurines carved in Moldavite were a favorite of the art deco age, and modern jewelry made with Vltavin is in high demand.
